It is a marine haven, away from maritime routes. It’s a pearl island, unlike any other in the eastern South Pacific. It is also an island designed to give birth to an ecotourism project making it possible to invent an original form of sustainable tourism, where development and preservation of fauna and flora combine and complement each other in an unprecedented achievement. Ultimately, it’s such a rare occasion that we can call it a daydream. It takes two hours by plane from Tahiti Faa'a International Airport, located 5 km south of Papeete, capital of Polynesia, on the island of Tahiti, to reach Nengo Nengo. It is an atoll located 42 km southeast of Ravahere, its closest neighbor, and 100 km southwest of Hao. It is also administratively attached to the commune of Hao, even though it is a private island. The atoll, oval, measures 13 km long by 8 km maximum width for a land area of 9 km2. Its vast interior lagoon has an area of 67 km2, but has no sea connection. The seamount on which the atoll is located rises to 4,355 m, making it one of the highest seamounts in the archipelago. A private airport, owned by the pearl company, was inaugurated in 1993. The runway is 1,400 meters long, unpaved, traced on the eastern motu. It can be extended by an additional 400 m. The atoll is private, managed by an SCI (reduced acquisition costs) but is not closed to tourism, particularly high-end tourism. It is also within the framework of the development of this exclusive, sustainable and tailor-made tourism that the atoll is put up for sale, with a turnkey development project. Nengo Nengo did not have a navigable pass, so a navigation channel was dug south of the airstrip. It is around this chain that the luxury hotel project was designed. Around a hundred bungalows occupy the two large eastern motu. Totally isolated villas, on stilts and rock foundations, are planned in the northern center of the atoll, on the edge of a totally protected marine area. On the two motu in the northeast, bungalows on stilts are planned, along the beaches known for their pink sand. In their continuity, to the north, an 18-hole golf course will be built. It will be the first golf course on an atoll. The planned grass has already been tested in Moorea as well as in Déva (New Caledonia). It is splash resistant and requires little water. A desalination system will be installed near the photovoltaic plant to meet the drinking water needs of all residences. A science center will be built in the southwest part of the atoll. Its objective will be to ensure the protection and monitoring of turtles, a sacred totemic animal in Polynesia. Finally, on this pearl island, the cultured pearl of Tahiti will be in the spotlight of the stays: initiation to grafting, investment in production lines, remote monitoring of the evolution of its grafted oysters, participation in the harvest.. Each owner will be able to invest in maritime pearl concessions, up to 500 m2. It is therefore more than an acquisition of land, even on a private island, but an investment in an economic development project, combining luxury and sustainable tourism. The Nengo Nengo lagoon is so pure that its water is reminiscent of a swimming pool. Salinity, nutrients, oxygenation and depth (around 45 m) come together to offer pearl oysters the ideal conditions for their breeding. Tuamotu Atolls in their pa'umotu spelling.
